Yair Yona

About

Israeli born Yair Yona had been playing bass since the age of 16, when he was exposed to the world of psychedelic rock and prog-rock. After spending some time in high school bands and playing in several of other short term projects, Yair went to study audio engineering in SAE, London.

In London, Yair played in the local Human Beings band and after discovering the British folk music, especially the one of Bert Jansch, switched to acoustic guitar and started exploring the fingerpicking style.
Upon returning to Israel in 2005, Yair had join The Third Ear record store in Tel Aviv, and became the manager of the store’s label – Earsay.
Meanwhile, he joined two childhood friends to start the post-grunge band Jet Sam, where he played bass. The band had released one EP, Remote that was promoted with an East Coast tour in the US.

In 2007, Yair and two partners had established the new Israeli alternative label/artists management Anova Music. The label also functioned as an active publishing company and ran its own recording studio.
In 2008, he joined the new band Buffalos, again as a bass player, and took place in the band’s debut album.

Upon discovering the world of acoustic instrumental music, especially the music of John Fahey and Robbie Basho, he started composing his own instrumental music, and in 2009 released his solo debut album Remember with Anova Music.
Remember was reissued with the US label Strange Attractors Audio House in August 2010.
Nowadays, Yair is working on his second solo album, write the music blog Small Town Romance and host his own radio show, Sonar, on 106.4fm. Yair also works as a personal manager of Israeli free-jazz saxophonist and composer – Albert Beger and partner in the avantgard label OutNow Recordings.
